Farming is about good food

Most people think farming is about animals. Some think farming is about the great outdoors.  Friends ask us, "Do you like working in the sun?  Are you doing this because you like to garden?  You must really like goats, right?"  And the answer is "sure, we enjoy the sun, the outdoors, the animals", but we didn't even know if we would like goats when we started down this path.  We were not satisfied with the taste or quality of food that we were buying from the grocery store or the meals readily available from restaurants. We started this because we want to produce our own good food.  We want to know that our food was grown in a natural, healthy environment.  We want to eat vegetables that were grown in fertile soil, ripened by the sun, full of vitamins and flavor.  We want meat, eggs, and milk from animals that live in a natural environment with sunlight and fresh air and consume natural feed.

Sure, we love the great outdoors.  We love the fresh air and sunshine.  It is a much healthier for the body to be outdoors working and moving and stretching and using muscles all day long rather than sitting in a chair. But that wasn't the spark that lead us towards this lifestyle, and it's not the deciding factor in our decisions to farm. The deciding factor was and still is: what will make the food taste better and be healthier for our bodies?
